Du Limited To 2gb?

Support section for FREESCO v0.3.x 3rd Party Packages

See this thread on my own forum <a href='http://dingetje.homeip.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=564' target='_blank'>http://dingetje.homeip.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=564</a>

it seems du in my utils_1.1_dingetje package cannot handle files or a total file size > 2Gb!

I've tried compiling a newer version but that also failed due to large integer definitions that are not understood by the ancient C-compiler of zipslack 3.9.

Does anyone know a tool that is able to locate large files?

As I recall the file size limitation is actually a lib5 limitation, so I am not sure this problem can be resolved easily. But "justdave" is the person to really answer this question because he has explored this issue in some other aplications.

There should not be any files over 2gb. This is a limitation of libc5 and could be overcome with the addition of another set of read/write calls. It's something that I have given up on because it looked much too complex. Although it could probably be done, it would increase the size of many binaries and therefore was not considered a good idea for FREESCO.

Files on FAT filesystems may have other limits. I was under the impression that the original FAT filesystem could only support disk/file limits of 2gb. In any event, I recommend using ext2 for any FREESCO systems running on hard disk.

If this problem occurs with ext2 then we should at least take a look at it to see if it can be fixed. Maybe Lightning can reproduce this anomaly and get some more information.
